So, let’s take a look at IP ratings. IP stands for Ingress Protection, although sometimes it’s referred to as “International Protection”. IP ratings are used to define levels of sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures (like lights) against intrusion from foreign bodies (tools, dirt and other things).

These ratings are made up of the prefix ‘IP’ and then 2 digits, for example ‘IP68’. Here’s what it means…
